The Saint-Petersburg Paper Mill of Goznak possesses a unique set of equipment that includes cellulose and cotton material preparation sections; sheet formation, chalking, trimming, cutting, and packaging. The equipment of the shops allows us to manufacture and process paper at virtually any level of complexity. We pay a special attention to quality control. In order to ensure a comprehensive approach to quality control, the ISO 9000 (1) system for quality management has been introduced at the mill. During recent modernization, we launched a new paper-cutting and packaging facility. A unique system for preparing and bleaching cotton raw materials has been installed. In 1998, we introduced a new system for manufacturing bank note and other types of paper with security elements, which includes equipment for preparing pulp, a paper-making machine, sheet cutting equipment, and a packaging line. The system is fully equipped with advanced automated control systems and technological process control systems. The leading manufacturers, such as Louisental, Valmet, and Clextral, supplied this equipment. In order to broaden the range of products and increase the level of protection of security paper, machinery for pre-molding holographic foil has been installed at the mill. We use special technologies for manufacturing watermarks. The mill has a special molding shop fitted with advanced equipment. We use only supreme-quality, ecologically pure raw materials. Sheet formation is carried out in a neutral environment without harmful additives. Cotton preparation process utilizes chlorine-free bleaching technology. Water preparation and utilization cycle is optimized so that the wastes are minimal. The ecological standards of the manufacturing process have been certified to comply with international standards of environment management, in accordance with ISO 14000 specifications. Modern requirements for paper quality, especially in the area of security paper, are changing rapidly. The company is involved in the constant improvement existing technologies and developing new technology-intensive products. In 2003, we created a new subdivision, the Prospective Development Department. Its goal is to study and implement the manufacture of new kinds of products. The mill has its own laboratory fitted with equipment and instruments necessary for modeling a complete paper manufacturing cycle.
Currently, the mill is introducing new types of products, such as coated paper with photo quality for ink jet printers, paper for CAD and GIS output (plotters), and special paper for envelope manufacture.
